Therapeutic Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an active and engaged approach to psychological treatment that helps to change moods and behavior patterns by changing the tone of inner dialogues. In CBT particular attention is paid to the patterns of “self-talk” that may be critical, angering, fear-inducing or discouraging. Through active exploration clients develop a more open, encouraging, and resilient tone to their self-talk. These changes in thinking approach have been shown to be linked to improved emotional states and lead to more satisfying behavioral habits in life.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an approach that is particularly helpful in achieving acceptance of what is outside of one's control, making healthy and constructive responses to one's life circumstances and developing committed habits that promote those healthy changes. This work emphasizes one’s core values and character strengths.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teaches individuals basic mindfulness meditation practice and applies it to lowering stress reactions. Effective breathing techniques, slowing of racing thoughts and increased peace of mind are often achieved through this practice.
